To deepen students' understanding of the application of intangible cultural heritage in tourism experiences, the Faculty of International
Tourism and Management (FITM) at City University of Macau hosted the “Culture and Creativity in Tourism — Intangible Heritage Incense-
Making Workshop”on 27 October 2025. The event invited Ms. Yuan Yuan, an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage and the Macau inheritor of the Veng Heng Cheong incense-making craft, to share her expertise and lead teachers and students in exploring the history and craft of
incense culture.

At the beginning of the event, Ms. Yuan Yuan used vivid storytelling to guide participants through the origins and development of incense
culture, illustrating the important role of aromatic materials in Chinese civilization—from royal courts and scholars' gatherings to religious
rituals and daily practices of mindfulness, incense has long embodied profound cultural meaning. Today, many study tours and cultural
experience programs have also incorporated incense-related activities, allowing participants to personally appreciate the elegance and
unique charm of this traditional art.

Through practical participation, students not only learned basic techniques of intangible-heritage incense making but also experienced the
meticulousness and aesthetics behind the craft. At the conclusion of the event, Ms. Yuan encouraged all participants to deepen their
understanding and appreciation of the charm of intangible cultural heritage (ICH), and to actively take on the responsibility of promoting and passing on Chinese culture. Guests participating in this event also include Associate Professor Liu Xining and Teacher Yang Min from Zhuhai
City Polytechnic.

FITM has always been committed to promoting the inheritance and research of intangible cultural heritage. This event marks the second
collaboration between FITM and Zhuhai City Polytechnic. From the successful " Intangible Heritage Paper-Cutting Workshop " held last year
to the current "Intangible Heritage Incense-Making Workshop", both parties along with intangible cultural heritage inheritors, are joining
hands to cultivate talents, allowing the beauty of intangible cultural heritage to shine anew on campus.
