FITM PhD Students visited Crowne Plaza Macau

On 16th March, students of 2016 PhD Program taught by Dr. Gavin Chau, Executive Associate Dean of  FITM (City U), were led by Ms. Emico Zhang,

International Affairs & Internship Head Officer, for a visit to Crowne Plaza Macau for out of classroom learning.

Mr. Fred Wu, Director of Human Resources from Crowne Plaza Macau and Ms. Diana Zhang, Training Manager of Crowne Plaza Macau offered a fruitful tour of

the facilities of hotel, such as guest room, restaurants and entertainment facitlities.

After the tour, students and hotel representatives had discussion over a series of hotel issues such as organizational structure, global brand management,

localization, outsourcing and marketing strategy.

In the evening, the hotel arranged local Chinese cuisine for dinner and during the dinner session, students and representatives from hotel had the second round

of discussion about catering materials procurement, beverage management, staff training and other issues. This type of innovative teaching method shifted the

traditional way of learning to "scenario experience ", which enhance students‘understanding of the operations of hotel in Macau. Participants were all very

satisfied. They think that this kind of learning method developed students' professional competence. The in-depth discussion and debate arranged enables

students to gain knowledge and insights not only from theories lectured in classes, but also from the actual experiences of the industry professionals. They are

looking forward for more out of classroom learning to be arranged.
