FITM and FED Students Join GYLTLC 2015

A delegation of FITM and FED City U students recently joined the 4th Global Youth Leaders Travel and Learning Camp (GYLTLC 2015) held in Singapore. The students also attended the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the country.

The delegation led by Dr. Eusebio Leou, Program Coordinator of FTIM, spent six days in Singapore for cultural exchange and learning. GYLTLC, as a platform of exchange for youth leaders around the world, was co-organized by National Community Leadership Institute and National University of Singapore and this year was the fourth session. The GYLTLC 2015 gathered student leaders from more than fifteen countries and regions including Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Vietnam, USA, China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The organizers integrated students from different countries and regions when arranging accommodation and activities for intercultural communication and NUS student leaders were arranged as their Peer Mentors. The FITM and FED student representatives were impressed by confidence shown by the Singaporean students.

The organizers planned diverse events, including Ice breaking activities, guest lectures, action learning, sustainable development, and urban planning, to deepen the communication among the students from different countries and regions. The student leaders were encouraged to discuss and express their thoughts on diverse important topics through intercultural communication and group learning. On the fourth day of the Camp, students from different countries and regions show their abilities of communication and speech in different groups. They presented and shared their opinions on issues of water resource consumption, education right, language policies, parenting, workplace bullying, and waste reduction in different countries and regions. At the closing ceremony and the award ceremony, the participants shared their experiences and gains during the camp and bid farewell to each other. The FITM and FED student representatives cherished the experience of joining the camp as they made good friends from around the world and learned different cultures.

The trip was partly funded by the Macau Foundation and Macau delegates were excellent students selected from each faculty. The visit not only promotes better communication between the FITM and FED students and student leaders in similar fields from top universities around the world, but also enhance the development of student leadership, and inspire learning motivation and broaden the horizons of FITM and FED students.
