As one of the emerging industries in Macao, the convention and exhibition industry has an important role in the development of a "World
Centre of Tourism and Leisure". Since 2018, the Macao Convention & Exhibition Association (MCEA) has been providing training and
internship courses for secondary schools and higher vocational colleges with the aim of cultivating talent for Macao's convention and
exhibition industry. In order to more effectively mobilise resources and to further deepen industry-university exchanges and cooperation,
Prof. Kong Fanqing, acting rector of City University of Macau (CityU), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MCEA
Deputy President Irwin Poon Yiu Win, also director of the Youth Committee, on behalf of their organisations at a CityU meeting room at
10 a.m. today (the 5th).
According to the MoU, the two organisations have agreed to establish a communication mechanism of mutual trust whereby they will actively promote the policy of developing Macao into a "World Centre of Tourism and Leisure" on the basis of maintaining close information
communication and strategy coordination. The specific contents include the following:
In future cooperation, by offering preferential terms to each other, as well as providing assistance and convenience for convention and
exhibition-related activities organised by the other, the two organisations will serve as platforms for each other. Apart from increasing
exchanges and interactions in the convention and exhibition industry, they will give full play to their respective resource advantages in order
to promote regular exchanges and cooperation between the convention and exhibition industry and the education sector in Macao, and to
jointly cultivate talent of the convention and exhibition industry. Moreover, the two organisations will hold training sessions when it is
appropriate. The MCEA will vigorously promote its members to provide internship opportunities for CityU students and ensure substantive
cooperation during conventions and exhibitions. It will also encourage its members to attend CityU's on-campus career fair events, explain
the industry's situation to the students, and provide interview opportunities as appropriate. The MCEA will organise study tours from time to
time as well. If there are suitable projects, it may invite CityU students to participate and lead them out of Macao to broaden their horizons.
Additionally, the two organisations will enhance cooperation in publicity and popularisation, work together in due course to organise
promotion activities, set up links to each other on their official websites, strengthen the exchange of advertising resources and the sharing of
information, and invite each other's leaders to attend their project promotion meetings, press conferences, and other publicity and
promotion activities.
Among the guests present at the signing ceremony, there were also: Dr. Li Xi, executive associate dean of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, CityU; Dr. Wang Xin, programme coordinator (bachelor) of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, CityU;
Wu Wenhui, Hong Yude, and Wu Shiya, deputy directors of the Youth Committee, MCEA.
