Faculty of International Tourism and Management successfully held the Qualitative Research Method Workshop


In order to improve the thesis writing and research analysis ability of master and doctoral students, the Faculty of International Tourism and

Management specially invited Associate Professor Feng Haiyan of  School of Business of Macao University of Science and Technology to hold a workshop on qualitative research methods from April 28 to May 12. About 40 master and doctoral students participated in this activity.

 

In the lecture, Professor Feng, combined with her scientific research experience, mainly taught how to do research, the relationship between

the whole research process, discussed the characteristics of quantitative, qualitative and mixed mode research, compared different research methods, and the whole research process from the establishment of the discussion problem to the completion of the paper, as well as the

process of interactive simulation of qualitative interview. In addition, Professor Feng also takes her own publishing experience as an example

to explain how to publish research papers and the related issues that should be paid attention to in the process of publishing.

 

In the course of the lecture, Professor Feng quoted the classics and combined the learning of theoretical knowledge with practical operation

through on-site demonstration and analysis. During the recess and interaction of each lecture, some students asked Professor Feng for advice on the problems encountered in the current study. Professor Feng answered them in turn and put forward his own opinions. The lecture

atmosphere is relaxed and active, and the teaching content is in simple language. Through the study, the students' ability of qualitative

analysis is strengthened, which lays a good foundation for the follow-up academic research.

 

Dr. Feng Haiyan is currently an associate professor of School of Business of Macao University of Science and Technology. She holds a

doctorate from the University of Macao. Her research fields include strategic management, Chinese enterprise research, tourism and

gambling. Professor Feng has participated in many scientific research and consulting projects funded by the Macao government and different enterprises. Her works have been published in international well-known journals such as Tourism Management, International Hotel

Management Journal, International Contemporary Hotel Management journal and Hotel marketing and Management Journal.
