FITM promotes the integration of culture and tourism

The Faculty of International Tourism and Management of City University of Macau has long been committed to promoting the synergistic

development of culture and tourism, actively nurturing talents with both humanistic literacy and creative thinking. The faculty encourages

students to use writing as a bridge, integrating Macau's urban memories and cultural essence into their works, allowing tourism and literature to rejuvenate each other through interaction.

Under the guidance of Dr. Esther Kou Iok Teng, the Programme Coordinator, several outstanding student works have been selected for

inclusion in the Anthology of Macau Writers 2025. This year's selected students include Pan Yuqi, Shi Zeying, Wang Yaqi, Han Feier, Wen Xiao, and Zhu Zhiling. Their works, characterized by diverse themes and nuanced brushstrokes, showcase the charm and humanistic warmth of

Macau's culture from various perspectives. Whether capturing local customs through the interplay of light and shadow during travels or

depicting urban stories with poetic elegance, their works reflect profound insights and creative interpretations of the integration of culture

and tourism in Macau.

Literature is not only an expression of emotion but also a vital vessel for cultural inheritance. Through the practice of creation and publication, students are able to explore cultural confidence in their writing and reinterpret the urban landscape from a tourism perspective. Moving

forward, FITM will continue to promote the in-depth integration of “Culture + Tourism”, encouraging students to excel in narrating Macau's stories and advancing Macau studies, thereby contributing to the cultural and tourism development of Macau.

Student feedback:

Master of International Hotel Management, Year 2

Shi Zeying:

It is a great honor to have my work selected for inclusion in the Anthology of Macau Writers 2025. This recognition would not have been

possible without the nurturing environment provided by the Faculty and our teachers. The university has offered us such a free and inclusive

academic ground, serving as fertile soil for growth. It is within this inspiring atmosphere that my creative ideas have flourished and my writing skills have continued to improve. This acknowledgment will inspire me to continue exploring and moving forward on my life's journey, using

words to capture the spirit of the times and my works to convey profound emotions. I will persist in my efforts and strive to live up to the

expectations of my mentors.

PhD in Hotel Management, Year 1

Pan Yuqi:

It is a great honor to have the opportunity to have face-to-face exchanges with many outstanding Macao writers at the release conference of

the “2025 Macao Writers' Collection”. Their experience in writing about the local characteristics of Macao and their unique cultural narrative strategies have benefited me a lot and also inspired my new thoughts on the integration of culture and tourism in cross-cultural

communication. My essays have been honored to be included in this collection of essays, which is inseparable from the encouragement of my mentor. Inspired by her, I embarked on this creative journey with “Macao Writing” as the entry point and food culture as the foothold. This

event was not only an exchange of literature for me, but also an on-site investigation of academia and culture. It deepened my understanding of Macao's culture and laid a solid foundation for my future research in the field of tourism.
