On August 23, 2026, the Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) at City University of Macau successfully held the 2026/2027 Postgraduate Orientation. This event aimed to build an interactive bridge between faculty and students, help new students adapt to the learning pace as soon as possible, and gain an in-depth understanding of the curriculum structure and the faculty team. At the same time, through experience sharing and on-site Q&A, it helped students clarify their academic planning and career development ideas. Professor Jacky Li Xi, Executive Associate Dean of FITM, Professor Huang Jiashun, Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Business, Associate Professor Wendy Gao Bo, Program Coordinator (Doctoral), Associate Professor Esther Kou Iok Teng, Program Coordinator (Master), Associate Professor Sally Duan Xialei, Program Coordinator (Bachelor), as well as many other faculty members attended the event to warmly welcome the 2026 cohort of postgraduate into the FITM family.

Professor Li Xi, speaking on behalf of the faculty, extended a warm welcome to the incoming graduate students. He emphasized that postgraduate education is not merely about accumulating knowledge, but about fundamentally sharpening one's research thinking and elevating professional competence. He encouraged the new cohort to take full advantage of the faculty’s diverse academic platforms and industry resources, to engage openly with supervisors and peers, and to gradually define their academic interests and career directions through active exchange and hands-on experience. He concluded by urging them to keep striving for continuous growth and excellence throughout their graduate studies.

Next, Associate Professor Kou Iok Teng, Coordinator of the Master's Program, gave a detailed walkthrough of the master's curriculum, explaining the program structure, critical academic milestones, and thesis requirements. She highlighted the faculty’s ongoing efforts to nurture an open, collaborative academic culture. She encouraged students to stay attuned to evolving industry trends, make the most of international exchange and internship opportunities, and thereby build the capabilities that will serve them well in both their professional and scholarly pursuits.

Then, Associate Professor Gao Bo, Coordinator of the Doctoral Program, turned her attention to the co-curricular landscape awaiting graduate students. She encouraged the new cohort to step beyond the classroom, embrace these opportunities as avenues for self-development, and cultivate the well-rounded competencies and industry awareness that would round out their graduate experience.

During the faculty introduction session, Professor Timothy Lee, Dr. Duan Xialei, Dr. Wu Xiaohong, Dr. Yu Xi, Dr. Lin Bingna, Dr. Liu Tingyao, Dr. Xu Han, Dr. Xue Xunyue, Dr. Zhang Yunxuan, Dr. You Zhong'en, Dr. Tang Xiangjie, Dr. Zhang Chenxi, Dr. Li Jianwen, Dr. Chen Yuanyi, Dr. Guo Renyu, Dr. Chang Lu, Dr. Ye Huiyue, Dr. Wu Hongrun, Dr. Li Mengfan, Dr. Li Zhuxian, Dr. Piao Zhenxian, and Dr. Qin Yuan successively introduced their respective research fields and supervisory styles, inviting new students to reach out proactively based on their interests and engage in two-way selection and in-depth exchanges between faculty and students.

Towards the end of the event, alumnus Xiong Huachen joined the new cohort for a candid peer-to-peer exchange. Reflecting on his own graduate journey, he shared practical insights on thesis writing, managing competing deadlines, and navigating the University's resources to full advantage. He then fielded questions from the floor, addressing each concern with the benefit of hindsight. The session sparked a lively back-and-forth that carried the energy of the room well into the closing moments.

The orientation gave new students a clearer picture of what lies ahead in their graduate studies. It also brought faculty and students closer together and laid solid groundwork for the academic exploration to come. The event ended on a high note with vibrant exchanges filling the room. The Class of 2026 now stands ready to begin its journey. A world of scholarly discovery and opportunity awaits.
