CityU's Hospitality & Tourism Management Programs Ranked 52 on ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021


ShanghaiRanking (www.shanghairanking.cn), a global top 4 ranking institution, published the“ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of

Academic Subjects 2021”on 26 May 2021.  The City University of Macau went up two places and ranked 52 globally in the Hospitality &

Tourism Management category and is ranked among the top 20% of those listed.

 

Currently, the most well-recognized world university rankings include ARWU World University Rankings (ShanghaiRanking), QS World

University Rankings, Times World University Rankings and U.S. News World University Rankings.  These top four rankings reflect to a large

extent the quality and standard of higher education institutions, as well as the trust and expectations of students, scholars, industris and

governments around the world for the schools listed on the rankings. The rankings cover 54 mainstream subjects of the five major categories of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical science and the social sciences. More than 4000 universities around the world have

participated in the rankings and more than 1800 universities from 93 countries and regions are listed on ranking by academic subjects.

 

The Faculty of International Tourism and Management of CityU places emphasis on integration of industry and academia, strives to promote

international cooperation, improve program design and research development and accentuate program features. All the undergraduate,

Master's and PhD programs the Faculty offers have obtained World Tourism Organization TedQual certification. In line with the mission

of“promoting innovative teaching and scientific research, cultivating high-quality tourism talents, and fostering social harmony and

prosperity”, the Faculty has built an international academic team to provide strong intellectual support for cultivation of local young talent. 

It also seeks to cater for developments needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, keep abreast of international academic updates, adopt an output orientation that helps enhance cultivation of high end talent and advocate teacher and student cooperation in

research“led by industry issues”. In recent years, the Faculty is committed to contributing towards the regional strategy of developing

Macao into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.  Its teachers and students have published more than 100 high-level academic papers in

international authoritative journals, making significant achievement in the exploration of industry-university-research integration in tourism

studies strongly advocated by the Macao SAR government.

 

In response to the development trends of Macau and the international tourism industry and their demand for high-quality talents, the Faculty makes continuous efforts to  innovates talent cultivation models, integrate academic and industry resources at home and abroad and

provides students with different levels of practical learning, cross-cultural exchanges and internship opportunities. In the future, the Faculty of International Tourism and Management of CityU will continue to seek breakthroughs through innovation, constantly improve its students'

competitiveness at international employment market and its academic staff’s international academic competitiveness, strive for excellence

in various areas, such as education, research and social services, actively seek to host iconic academic tourism events, accumulate outstanding academic achievements in tourism studies, serve flagship tourism enterprises, support SMEs in tourism innovation and make greater

contributions to the sustainable development of the tourism industry both home and abroad.
