The Faculty of International Tourism and Management of the City University of Macau received a formal notice from the World Tourism
Organization a few days ago that the certification of TedQual quality education had been renewed for another four years (2021-2025) for its
six programs, namely Bachelor of International Tourism and Hotel Management, Master of International Hospitality and Tourism
Management (Chinese & English) and Doctor of Philosophy in International Tourism Management (Chinese & English).
TedQual certification of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a world renowned authoritative certification for
education programs of tourism and hotel management. It aims to improve the quality of tourism education, training and research programs. The certification system takes into account both internal and external aspects of programs and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of
different aspects of the programs, covering the coherence of the plan of studies, infrastructure and pedagogical support, policies, tools and
support mechanisms for administrative management, the existence of transparent mechanisms for the selection of the faculty and favourable conditions for their professional development, and the relevance of the content of the programme of studies with respect to the needs of the tourism sector.
According to the certification guidelines of UNWTO, the longest possible certification period for a program is four years. The Faculty is
granted re-certification for four years and this demonstrates that Faculty’s quality and development is highly recognized by the UNWTO
expert. The Faculty has been ranked among the top 20% universities on the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in
2020 and 2021. The renewal of TedQual certification is another recognition by a global authoritative institution, testifying the Bachelor's
Master's and PhD programs offered by the Faculty have attained international standards.
In the future, the Faculty will use program evaluation as an important leverage and the ethical norms global tourism development as the
benchmark, continue to review and improve the development model of the Faculty and strive for excellence in education, research and social services in order to fulfill its responsibility and contribute to the sustainable development of tourism of Macao, the Greater Bay Area, and of
places home and abroad.
