On 22 April 2024, the Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) successfully hosted an academic seminar titled "Experimental Design in Consumer Research". This seminar was attended by numerous master's and doctoral students from FITM, with the objective of
gaining a deeper understanding of the underlying logic of experimental method design and the basic operating procedures for using SPSS
software. This enhanced students' ability to use experimental methods and software in qualitative research.
Students paid close attention in this seminar
Dr. Joanne Xue, an assistant professor on our faculty, joined us as a guest speaker for this seminar. Dr. Xue led students through a series of
case studies and practical exercises to teach them how to use SPSS for effective data analysis on the spot, emphasizing the software's
advantages in quantitative research.
Dr. Xue sharing the experimental design content with students
Dr. Xue presented the five-step process for designing experiments, which includes establishing research questions and hypotheses, designing experiments, selecting participants, collecting data, and analyzing results. Dr. Xue described each process in detail, using experimental
scenarios. The students actively participated in the discussion, asking pertinent questions and adding to the lively atmosphere. Dr. Xue's
presentation broadened the students' academic perspective, improved their ability to learn experimental design methodologies, and helped
them better understand how to use SPSS software.
Q&A session
FITM is dedicated to developing top-tier talent with a global perspective and professional skills. The academic seminars laid a strong
foundation for their future academic and professional endeavors.
