The program aims to train senior professionals of tourism management with skills in scientific analysis and professional management. Well-known experts and
professors in the tourism industry will be invited to teach tourism-related courses. Internship opportunities in Macau and overseas will be provided to students to have in-depth understanding of the international management practice. Thesis writing and defense will integrate knowledge and experience to further enhance
the comprehensive ability of students.

Course Description
Compulsory
Tourism for the International Hospitality Business
This module examines the impact of tourism activity on the operation of hospitality enterprises. Key issues relating to product packaging, consumer
preferences and marketing responses are explored together with macro issues, such as regulation and planning. The emphasis in this module lies in the effect
tourism activity and development has on the hospitality sector at the local, national and international level.
Operations Decision Making
This module examines issues faced by operations managers in service industries through the adoption of a problem solving approach. A systems approach is
taken in that the module examines generic issues in relation to the operations arena rather than examining departmental areas in isolation.
The module helps prepare the student for the ‘live case study’ which will normally form the basis of assessment for the module Contemporary Issues in
Hospitality Management.
Resources Management
This module examines issues faced by those managers who have direct responsibility for resources management. These issues are analyzed inrelation to the
array of changes in the economic environment.
Module delivery will consist of a number of key lectures, together with the use of case studies and/or journal analysis. The assessment will take the form of a
critique of an industry based scenario.
Management Information Systems in Tourism Industry
This course is designed to provide students with an awareness of the functions of the information system technology in the tourism industry. The focus of the
course is to enable students to gain an understanding and analysis of MIS and the various specific applications of the MIS models in the tourism industry.
Students will also learn the uses of MIS in the tourism industry as well as to evaluate the potential impact of MIS on the future tourism industry.
Strategic Risk Management
This module examines the nature and complexities of decision-making in the hospitality environment, exploring the challenges of operating in both stable and unstable environments. There is an emphasis on understanding the complexity of strategic perspectives in both the internal and external environments as
well as in appreciating the subtlety, inconsistencies, bureaucracy and political decisions inherent in guiding the future direction of hospitality organizations.
Research Methods
It is the aim of this module to give students the essential research tools, skills and expertise that they will need as managers in their chosen service industry
sector. These will be rehearsed by students undertaking a study on a topic of their own choice, developing their skills through planning, researching and
reporting the study for a dissertation.
Topics include:
- The basis of management research.
- The philosophical bases of research methods and the criteria for research topic selection. The characteristics of successful research.
- Carrying out a successful literature search, analyzing the secondary data and reporting the findings in a literature review.
- Understanding the rationale for sample selection.
- Correctly applying quantitative research methods and subsequent statistical analysis of data.
- Correctly applying qualitative research methods and analyzing the data in a relevant manner.
- Applying suitable methods to given research needs and circumstances.
- Analyzing and synthesizing data in a meaningful discussion.

Hotel Management
Environmental Management for Hotels and Tourism Destinations
This course provides practical guidance for the hotel and tourism industry on improving environmental performance to contribute to successful business
operations. It will also examine environmental review process, staff commitment, resource acquisition and allocation, leadership and team building as well as
the prioritization of these areas. It also includes planning, goal setting, implementation, evaluation and review of processes.
Business Analysis for Hotel and Tourism Industry
The collection, analysis and interpretation of data are essential for planning, strategy development and problem solving in the hotel and tourism industry. This
course introduces students to different approaches of business analysis so that they will be able to plan and evaluate business issues using vital research
methodologies discussed in the course.
Term Project of International Tourism and Hotel Management
A case-study or internship approach to study the tourism and hotel management issues related to the international tourism industry.
Internship as Management Trainee (Hotel Management)
Outstanding students will be recommended to the hotel-related business to have an internship at management for a period of six months. It means that an

MICE Management
Strategic Management of MICE and Events
This course will examine the planning, arrangement and organization of conventions, meetings and expositions. The focus is to explore the role and
relationship of the major players in MICE and events and the importance of this sector in the overall tourism industry.
Planning and Operation Management of MICE and Events
This course covers the planning and operation management aspects of MICE and events. The components and processes involved in developing and
conducting meeting, conventions and events will be studied in depth in the course.
Term Project of MICE and Events
A case-study or internship approach to study the international conventions and events issues related to the tourism industry.
Internship as Management Trainees (MICE Management)
Outstanding students will be recommended to the MICE-related business to have an internship at management for a period of six months. It means that an

Tourism Education
Localization and Internationalization of Tourism Education
The course is set on the current development of Macau tourism education, keeping the development trends of global tourism education in view, embarking
the comparative study on tourism education of Macau and that of Mainland China and overseas to build a comprehensive tourism education system of
Macau which is future-oriented and with international standards and local characteristics. An international development model of tourism education with local
characteristics is proposed innovatively, development strategies of internationalization and localization of Macau tourism education are accordingly put
forward, and finally a security system of international development of Macau tourism education is built from a multi-angle and multi-level.
Special Topic in Tourism education and training
Each tourism enterprise demands for well-trained staff, which is also the expectation of guests. This course teaches students how to become a good
educator / trainer, and how to play a good role in training in the future businesses; teaches students the skills of training and development, and training
delivery skills. The topics are such as: Why training is critical to the success of business, how to use a variety of evaluation methods to determine training
needs, instructional design techniques and procedures as well as pros and cons of tutorial system.
Term Project of Tourism Education

Gaming and Club Management
Operations of Modern Gaming Industry
This course covers the development of modern gaming industry, analysis of the gaming industry in Macau, gaming control and taxation, casino management
structure, human resources training as well as the introduction to and promotion of gaming sociology.
Club Management
This course introduces the outlook and composition of the industry in the tourism business. Through this course, students will understand the responsibilities
of club managers for them to acquire necessary management strategies and techniques in the maintenance of environmental safety.

A case-study or internship approach to study the gaming management issues related to the international tourism industry.
