Course Features
The Hotel Management programme aims to train the senior professionals of hotel industry. This programme is designed for current hotel managers or students
who planning work in hotel industry. Apart from the regular classroom teaching, this programme enhances experiencing learning skills, such as overseas field trips based on the actual needs of the modules. Finally, through the completion of the project reports and oral defense, the students will integrate the knowledge and
competence in hotel management, and become a highly qualified person who can serve in government departments, hotels, gambling, entertainment and
non-profit organizations.

Course Description
Compulsory Courses
1. Human Resources Management in Hotel Industry (3 credits)
This course focuses on the functions of human resources management of hotel industry. Context includes identify the problems of human resources
management, how to planning, recruitment, selection, placement and orientation, employee development, evaluation, salary and payments and collective
negotiation.
2. Strategic Management in Hotel Business (3 credits)
This subject aims to enable students to develop a comprehensive and critical understanding of the roles that multiple players, encompassing public and private
ventures contribute in enhancing the competitiveness of tourist destinations. The subject focuses on examining how collective strategies in destination
management are implemented in an integrated manner at the national, sector, and individual company levels.
3. Managing Marketing in the Hotel Industry (3 credits)
The purpose of this subject is to provide students with the opportunity to learn up-to-date principles and theories in marketing at the management level. The
emphasis is placed on the application of marketing knowledge and skills to the hospitality and tourism industry. Students' learning experience will be enhanced
through the use of creative approaches to solve marketing problems in the hotel and tourism settings.
4. Hotel Financial Management (3 credits)
The objective of the course is to supply the students with the knowledge that is needed for financial decision making in the hospitality industry and for efficient
financial management of hospitality enterprises. This course highlights the dimensions of organizational culture which are associated with financial knowledge
and processes. The context includes financial management and strategy. Financial issues that is special to the hospitality industry, placing particular emphasis on
the structure of the global for hospitality services.
5. Research Methods (3 credits)
The aim of this course to give students the essential research tools, skills and knowledge that they will need as managers in their chosen hospitality sector. It
allows introduces students to different approaches of business analysis so that they will be able to plan and evaluate business issues using vital research
methodologies discussed in the course.
6. Original Project Report (6 credits)
The purpose of this subject is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to prepare, develop and present a consultancy project report for a client. The
subject introduces students to the world of consulting. Initially, it will provide basic knowledge on the nature and characteristics of consulting, and the skills
required to be an effective consultant. The consulting process and some practical issues in consulting especially in the tourism and hospitality context will be
addressed.Students are exposed to the technical aspects of consulting and will be required to undertake a consulting project for a client.
Elective Courses
1. Healing Hotel Management (3 credits)
This course describes the characteristics and management of healing hotels. The authentic and quality driven criteria for each hotel's environment and holistic
health and wellbeing services are discussed. Main differences from other luxury hotels and effects of those on operations, marketing and financing are explained. Healing hotels and resorts provide the guests with a healthy lifestyle and design special programs to help them become whole again in body, mind and soul,
often following a serious illness or trauma. The main contents of the course include the criteria of a health hotel, the characteristics and motives of health driven
guests, the types of health and wellbeing products, and the design and management of health and wellbeing programmes.
2. Cultural Tourism (3 credits)
This subject introduces students to issues relating to the sustainable management of cultural tourism. It examines cultural tourism from the perspective of its four constituent parts (the use of cultural assets; tourism; consumption, and; the consumer) and then evaluates how they can be integrated into successful cultural
tourism activities. The subject uses a strategic management approach and provides students with the skills and knowledge to evaluate, manage and market
cultural tourism attractions.
3. Hotel Technology and Innovation (3 credits)
The purpose of this subject is to provide students with an awareness of the impact of information and communication technologies [ICTs] and related innovations in the hotel and tourism industries. It aims to enable students to gain an in-depth understanding of the main managerial functions of ICTs and innovations, and
their specific applications to various functional areas in hospitality and tourism. It would also facilitate students’ learning and understanding of the strategic uses of ICTs and related innovations, as well as provide a framework for planning future technology developments. The potential impacts of the future technological
innovation and developments on hospitality and tourism management will also be covered in this subject.
4. The Luxury Brand Management (3 Credits)
This subject emphasizes conceptual, analytical and application skills in luxury brand management and luxury experience. Concepts and applications will be
introduced through the textbooks, selected journal articles and field visit. The idea of creating this subject is to help students analyze the essence of a luxury
brand, luxury brand consumption and luxury experience. It hopes to enable students to analyze the power of a luxury brand and evaluate a luxury experience
through its value, its social, contractual and semiotic dimensions. The subject requires an overseas field trip which will be offered in the form of residential
workshop. (Note: The overseas residential workshop is a compulsory part of the subject. Failure to participate in the workshop will result in a failure in the subject.)
5. Customer Relationship Management in Hotel Industry (3 credits)
This subject aims to provide students with the knowledge of the fundamental aspects of developing and managing customer relationships in the hospitality
industry. The course will develop understanding about customer relationship management concepts and frameworks, and how these are applied to form
relationships with customers and other internal and external stakeholders. It emphasizes customer profitability analysis and the profitable management of
customer relationships. After this course, students can apply the concepts and tools with other related fields to design innovative customer relationship
management program for an organization.
6. Operations Decision Making in Hotel Industry (3 credits)
This course introduces related knowledge and skills in the hotel, including how to identify new business opportunities and master customer needs in a
service economy, construct excellent service structure and culture, form quality enterprise framework, and mold the spirit of service into the soft powers of the
organization. This course also imparts skills on serving internal customers as well as satisfy external customer expectations, enhance the overall competitiveness of the enterprise and its service quality and promote service innovation. It also teaches how to form strategic management thinking and rational decision-making of managers, and improve various abilities such as environment analysis, market insight, opportunity taking, strategies development, superiority conformation,
performance improvement, efficiency improvement, and decision-making abilities.
7. Quality Service Management in Hotel Industry (3 credits)
The course emphasizes conceptual, analytical, and problem solving skills which integrate service management models, service marketing, service quality,
customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty. Concepts and applications will be delivered through the textbook and selected journal articles in the class. The idea
for this subject is provide a practical skill for the students in facilitate their service quality management in a hospitality organization.
8. Planning and Operation Management of MICE and Events (3 credits)
This course covers the planning and operation management aspects of MICE and events. The components and processes involved in developing and conducting meeting, conventions and events will be studied in depth in the course.
9. Information System Management in Hotel Industry (3 credits)
This course is designed to provide students with an awareness of the functions of the information system technology in the tourism industry. The focus of the
course is to enable students to gain an understanding and analysis of MIS and the various specific applications of the MIS models in the hospitality tourism
industry. Students will also learn the uses of MIS in the tourism industry as well as to evaluate the potential impact of MIS on the future tourism industry.
10. China Hotel Development(3 credits)
The course covers the evolution and development of the tourism information in China. The context includes understanding the dynamic changes from politics to economic environment. Discussions of contemporary issues include the inbound, outbound, domestic tourism market, tourism policy implementation, and travel services. Hotel management and operation will also be discussed.
11. Integrated Resort Management (3 credits)
This subject is designed to introduce students to theoretical frameworks and practical applications of integrated resort management. The students will be
provided opportunities to learn from the growth and development of major hospitality chains and to analyze integrated resort management strategies and tactics at different levels and markets. The course covers the structure of integrated resort, including casino management, the role of the hotels in the integrated resort,
shopping mall management and catering management.
12. Contemporary Trends and issues in Hotel industry (3 credits)
This course aims to convey an understanding of the global trends and issues of the hospitality industry. Through case discussions, students will gain insight into
the current practices in the hospitality industry. Based on the macro perspectives, useful information on the modernization of business management will be
delivered in this subject. How the modern hotel management skills and e-platform provide different opportunities for hotel business will be introduced. After this course, students will understand the global trends in the hospitality service environment, which can help them to improve their management skills and help with
their career improvement.
