The 5th National College Business English Contest and the 2021 National College English Proficiency Contest results were recently
announced. Xu Zhibin, a Master Degree student in the Program of International Hospitality and Tourism Management, competed successfully in the contest and won one first prize in Macau and two first prizes across the country under the supervision of Dr. Irini L. F. Tang, Assistant
Professor at the FITM.

The 5th National Contest for College Business English is directed by China Shippers’ Association and Economic and Higher Education Press, covering both business knowledge and vocabulary. It aims to implement the National Standard of Teaching Quality for Foreign
Languages and Literature Majors in Higher Education, explore ways and means to promote teaching and learning through competition, and
equip students with better business English. The National College English Proficiency Contest is organized by China Teacher Development
Research Center under China Academy of Management Science, which aims to implement the spirit of English teaching reform in higher
education institutions, respond to the new situation of “One Belt One Road” development, meet the national requirements for talent
cultivation, guide students to develop their thinking skills in the process of English learning, discover their strengths and weaknesses, set
learning goals in a targeted manner and improve the quality of talent cultivation.

Participants came from over 1,700 academic institutions across China, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, China University of Science and Technology, and Xiamen University, to compete in the two competitions. Long listening, short
listening, cloze, reading comprehension, translation, and writing were among the competition formats. In June and July, our student took first place in both the provincial and national competitions. More than ten authoritative media organizations, including china.com, CRI Online,
chinanews.com, china.org.cn, and ynet.com, have covered the competitions.
The success of FITM teachers and students in a series of competitions reflects the faculty's comprehensive training system and excellent
teaching quality. The Faculty is concerned with students' English literacy, insists on teaching in English, emphasizes pronunciation and
grammar in daily instruction, and provides a solid foundation for students' long-term English proficiency development.
