On December 1, 2021, our faculty invited the Dean of South China Normal University Fang Yuanping to give an online lecture on "Topic
Selection and Application Skills for National Research Projects". Dean Fang Yuanping is currently the deputy dean of the School of
Geographical Sciences of South China Normal University, the former deputy dean of the School of Tourism Management, and the director of
the Urban Leisure and Tourism Planning Center. He has won the third prize of Guangdong Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design, and the first prize of Guangzhou Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design.
The symposium conducted online
In the symposium, Academician Fang Yuanping led the teachers and students of our faculty to sort out the topic selection, application and
writing skills of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He put forward a sufficient basis for the topic selection, and listed all the
projects established in the past three years as a reference, and predicted the tilt direction of the National Science Foundation in the future. He encouraged teachers and students to "highlight originality, focus on the frontiers, and create unique ways" in the process of selecting topics,
so as to truly achieve "common orientation and cross-integration".

At the same time, Dean Fang Yuanping took his own years of experience in applying for national-level projects as an example, and elaborated on the requirements and rules for multiple national-level fund applications. When talking about the skills of writing declaration forms, Dean
Fang Yuanping summed up many practical logical frameworks and solutions to possible problems for teachers and students. The teachers and students who participated in the symposium said that they benefited a lot.

The symposium lasted for three hours, during which the interaction between the teachers and students of our faculty and Dean Fang
Yuanping was very enthusiastic. Many teachers and students expressed their difficulties and doubts when applying for national-level projects to Dean Fang Yuanping. In the process of actively answering the questions, Dean Fang Yuanping did not forget to emphasize the importance of having a good attitude and not discouraged attitude for the application of the subject. Finally, on behalf of the Faculty of International
Tourism and Management, Professor Li Xi thanked dean Fang Yuanping for his speech, and said that more such symposium will be held in the future to promote the common progress of teachers and students in academics.
