FITM Students Serve as Teaching Assistants in Yangxi to Promote the Development and Inheritance of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Recently, Dr. Esther Kou Iok Teng, Coordinator of the Master's Program in Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) of City

University of Macau, led a team of students to collaborate with faculty and students from the School of Tourism Management of Zhuhai

Polytechnic. They visited the Cultural Center in Yangxi County, Yangjiang City, to jointly launch a series of educational support activities as part of the "Intangible Cultural Heritage Activity Week." This event demonstrated the college's strong commitment to fulfilling its social

During the event, Dr. Esther Kou Iok Teng, introduced the cultural characteristics and rich cultural tourism resources of Macau to the

attendees. She encouraged everyone to deeply learn about and appreciate the charm of intangible cultural heritage and to actively take on

the responsibility of promoting and upholding Chinese culture. The "Intangible Cultural Heritage Activity Week" is a comprehensive event

that integrates education, experience, and transmission, covering various traditional skill courses. FITM students served as teaching assistants during the paper-cutting activity, guiding participants in experiencing this traditional craft.

After the event, the children expressed that they had gained a lot. Not only did they learn the art of paper cutting and create works they were satisfied with, but they also developed a deeper understanding and love for intangible cultural heritage. At the same time, this activity

provided FITM students with the opportunity to actively participate in the practice of cultural inheritance, deepening their awareness and

understanding of the value of intangible cultural heritage. It promoted the development of cultural heritage and injected new vitality into the cultural life of the local community.

Student Reflection:

Master of International Hospitality and Tourism Management

Year 2, Wen Xiao

Be teaching assistant for this event made me realize that "serving society to achieve oneself" is a pleasure in life. Education is a subtle process, and growth requires accumulation; life also has many turning points. This is my insight from the entire teaching assistance program. The

activity has had a profound and gradual impact on the children, which may influence their entire lives. Furthermore, the Inheritance of culture

is a lengthy process; only through more similar activities can we better preserve and pass on our traditional culture and handicrafts.

It fills my heart with joy to see how much the children in Yangxi have grown and developed a deep interest in intangible cultural heritage

under our guidance. It's been amazing to watch them gain so much in such a short period of time, especially in the practice of paper cutting

techniques. I've seen first-hand how important it is to broaden children's horizons. It's so rewarding to share our own knowledge and

experience with them, with intangible cultural heritage as a starting point. This activity has made me feel even more responsible to protect

and promote traditional culture. It's amazing to see how sharing knowledge and culture can truly change and influence a person's way of

thinking!
