The 2024 FITM Doctoral Student Orientation Successfully Held


On September 4, 2024, Faculty of International Tourism and Management held the 2024/25 academic year doctoral student orientation and

mentor meeting. This orientation aimed to welcome the new students, introduce the faculty overview, course requirements, and the research areas of the doctoral mentors, as well as provide experience sharing and address any questions the new students might have. The Director of

the Doctoral Program, doctoral mentors, and the entire 2024 cohort of doctoral students participated in this meeting.

Dr. James Shen, doctoral program Coordinator, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the faculty and staff, expressing a warm welcome to

the new students. He pointed out that doctoral studies are not only about enhancing academic capabilities but also about personal growth

and self-challenge. Associate Professor Shen encouraged the new students to set clear academic goals and plans during their studies, to focus on their research fields while developing an interdisciplinary perspective, to actively participate in academic activities and exchanges, to value communication with mentors, and to cooperate with fellow students, as well as to learn how to balance study and life.

 

Following this, Dr. James Shen provided a detailed introduction to the faculty, the course structure, research areas, and the preparation for the dissertation, helping the new students better adapt to the doctoral program. He also encouraged the new students to actively engage in

academic activities and make full use of the resources provided by the faculty.

During the meeting, the faculty specially invited several distinguished professors and doctoral mentors who shared their research experiences and academic insights with the new students. These mentors have rich experience and outstanding achievements in their respective research

fields. Through sharing their research journeys, successful experiences, and challenges faced on the academic path, they provided valuable

guidance and advice to the new students.

Additionally, the faculty invited current doctoral students Hu Yi and Feng Zixin to share their learning experiences with the new cohort. They

provided valuable advice on study tips, participation in academic activities, research planning, and publishing papers in international journals, helping the new students gain a clearer understanding and expectations for their future academic life.
