Welcome Message: FITM Successfully Held the 2024/2025 New Master's Student Orientation


On September 11, 2024, the Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) at City University of Macau successfully hosted the New Master's Student Orientation for the 2024/2025 academic year. The event aimed to introduce new students to the academic environment and resources available at FITM, clarify course requirements, and outline the research areas of faculty supervisors. Additionally, it provided

valuable insights and advice on both academic and personal life. Professor Xi Li, the Executive Associate Dean; Associate Professor James

Shen, the Doctoral Program Coordinator; Associate Professor Wendy Gao, the Bachelor's Program Coordinator; and Esther Kou Iok Teng, the Master's Program Coordinator, along with other supervisors, attended this event to welcome the new students.

Professor Xi Li warmly welcomed the new students, emphasizing that pursuing a Master's degree is a journey filled with both challenges and

opportunities. He expressed his hope that students would acquire substantial academic knowledge and practical experience during their time at the university. Professor Li encouraged the new students to establish clear learning objectives, actively engage in academic discussions and practical projects, and prioritize communication with their supervisors and classmates, which would help them clarify their academic and

career aspirations while fostering comprehensive self-improvement.

Next, Master's Program Coordinator Esther Kou Iok Teng provided an in-depth overview of the course design, key milestones, and the

preparation required for the graduation thesis. She emphasized that FITM is committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative learning

environment, encouraging students to fully utilize the t resources and platforms available. Additionally, she urged students to explore industry dynamics from various perspectives, broaden their personal horizons, and actively contribute to the sustainable development of the industry.

Subsequently, the Master's Supervisors took the stage one by one, including Dr. Kang Lin Peng, Dr. Wilson Au, Dr. Lin Bingna, Dr. Adrienne Liu, Dr. Joanne Xue, Dr. Carrie Zhang, Dr. Tang Xiangjie, Dr. Zhang Chenxi, Dr. Jessie Gao, Dr. Jianan Guo, Dr. Liyao Huang, Dr. Simon Li, Dr. Boyu Lin, Dr. Wanting Sun, Dr. Danni Wang, and Dr. Tao Zhang. Each supervisor provided insights into their respective research fields and encouraged

students to explore their interests and engage in active communication.

Additionally, three senior students—Xiong Huaichen, Gong Tingting, and Wang Yaqi—were invited to share their experiences, providing

valuable insights on effective learning strategies, engagement in academic activities, and academic planning. Their contributions helped new students gain a clearer understanding and realistic expectations of their future academic lives.

 

This orientation successfully established a bridge for communication between teachers and students, fostering mutual understanding and

collaboration. The event concluded in a harmonious atmosphere, leaving the new students inspired and determined as they embarked on

their challenging yet opportunity-filled graduate academic journey.
