Since the launch of the 15th National College Students' Red Tourism Creative Planning Competition in April 2025, it has attracted 6,002
outstanding teams from 1,001 universities across the country. After competition, 60 teams have made it to the finals. Bai Jing and Yan Ruyu
from our faculty, together with Lai Wenrui from Central China Normal University, formed the team“Macao-Han Connection”under the
guidance of Associate Professor Esther Kou IokTeng. After going through multiple rounds of evaluation, including preliminary scoring by the
organizing committee, re-evaluation, four rounds of expert review, and content review, they ultimately won the first prize in the preliminary
contest and successfully advanced to the finals.
The project“Lotus Blossoms in the Era of Prosperity: From the Beacon Fire Corridor to the Window of Revival”commemorates the 80th
anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Relying on Macao’s advantages of“one country, two
systems”and its background of Chinese and Western cultural integration, it strengthens national identity through red tourism. Based on
Jan Assmann’s cultural memory theory, it integrates three major media: historical sites (Ye Ting's former residence and 12 other
“V-shaped”resources), commemorative ceremonies, and revolutionary symbols to build a coherent “place of memory.”The theme
“Beacon Fire Corridor → Window of Revival”connects the nodes, innovates the“red tourism +” model (combining world heritage and
cuisine), and deepens patriotic education. Ultimately, it creates a demonstration project that combines cultural sovereignty awareness with
economic value, highlighting the vitality of“one country, two systems”and inspiring the joint creation of a future for national rejuvenation.
Reflections on Participating in the Contest
Yan Ruyu, student of Master of International Hospitality and Tourism Management
Now, as we mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World
Anti-Fascist War, our team has used the theory of cultural memory as the framework to connect 12 red tourism resources in Macao and create the themed route “Beacon Fire Corridor → Window of Revival.” We are grateful for the support of our college and thankful to the
competition for providing a platform to showcase our work, allowing us to interpret the value of Macao as a window of“one country, two
systems”from a youthful perspective. Moving forward, we will surely stay true to our original aspiration, use our creativity to carry forward
the red genes, and tell the Macao chapter of China's stories to the world!
Bai Jing, Student of Master of International Hotel Management
Months of exploration have taken me from textbooks to the actual sites. Red legacy is not a grand slogan; it is the youth using technology to
reproduce historical details and sparking cultural identity with creativity. I am grateful that the competition has given me the opportunity to
put theory into practice in the streets and alleys. This land of lotus flowers has taught me that loving my country and Macao ultimately
requires personal involvement.
Lai Wenrui, Master's Student at the National Research Center for Cultural Industry, Central China Normal University
Collaborating with students from the University of Macau has been highly rewarding. In the early stages, we conducted multiple field surveys, continuously making adjustments and improvements during these field trips to eventually form our final route plan. While writing the project proposal, team members worked closely together, actively offering suggestions. We are grateful to Professor Esther Kou for helping us further refine the proposal.
