Dominic Szambowski, Dean of the Swiss Hotel Management School, hosts seminar to discuss prospect of hospitality industry


Dr. Dominic Szambowski, Dean of the Swiss Hotel Management School (SHMS), led a delegation to the City University of Macau (CityU) today (March 29th) and hosted a thematic seminar to talk about the prospect of the hospitality industry at the Ho Yin Convention Centre, Taipa

campus. The seminar attracted over a hundred faculty and students to take part.

 

 

The delegation received a warm welcome from Rector Jun Liu and Prof. Li Xi, Executive Associate Dean of the Faculty of International Tourism

and Management (FITM), and were given a tour of the campus environment and teaching facilities. During an exchange session on program

development, teaching, and talent cultivation, both parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in joint talent cultivation projects, student exchange programs, academic research, and other areas to expand the scope of collaboration. Representatives from the Swiss Education

Group China, including Mr. Hu Rongming, Director of University Cooperation, Mr. He JianHui, Director of Institutional Partnership Programs,

and Mr. Zheng Guanghuang, Director of Operation, as well as Prof. Shen Huawen, FITM Coordinator of Postgraduate Programs, and Lecture

Law Yin Man, also participated in the meeting.

 

 

 

 

During the lecture, Dr. Dominic Szambowski presented three major challenges facing the hospitality industry. Firstly, the economic challenges that hotels faced due to the outbreaks of the pandemic. Secondly, the intensified homogenization competition due to technological

advancements in the industry. And thirdly, changes in consumer behavior and psychology under the sustainable development model of the

industry.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Szambowski discussed the future development trends of the hospitality industry in light of these challenges, emphasizing that

"challenges also present opportunities, and that future competitiveness in the industry will depend on the ability to provide customized

experiences and unique travel destinations.” He advised the students, as hospitality industry professionals, to enhance their professional

competence. "Solid and excellent professional expertise is the fundamental basis for success in the industry,”he commented.

 

In the Q & A session, Dr. Szambowski interacted with the faculty and students. Students said that they have benefited greatly from the lecture and have gained a deeper understanding of the development of the hospitality industry.
