The Faculty of International Tourism and Management attaches great importance to the cultivation of graduate students, and actively
organizes diversified activities to enliven the academic atmosphere and improve the research capabilities of students. During the fight
against the COVID-19 epidemic, FITM adhered to the principle of "undisrupted learning amid class suspension", and held two online
research workshops during the summer program to provide valuable online learning resources to students to meet their needs.
The first research workshop was held on May 21, and Dr. Rob Law, a distinguished professor from the School of Hotel & Tourism
Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University was invited as the instructor. The workshop focused on how to prepare the
manuscripts for tourism and service journals, including the writing style, research method, research contribution and journal selection,
as well as manuscript review and reasons for rejection. During the workshop, Prof. Law provided a number of examples to illustrate issues
that often occur in academic research and writing. Students and teachers keenly raised their questions, and benefited a lot from Prof. Law's
unique views on academic publishing. The activity helped postgraduates and teachers further understand the relationship between academic
research,writing and publishing.
The second research workshop was held on May 28, and Dr. Daisy Fan, Senior Lecturer from Bournemouth University was invited as the
instructor. The workshop was themed on how to construct a good doctoral dissertation. Dr. Fan first introduced her education background to students, and shared her research results. She discussed and exchanged views with students in depth on aspects including the selection of
research topics, literature review, research method, questionnaire design and data collection. Dr. Fan also answered all questions raised by
students during the Q&A session with patience, which aroused the students' attention to the writing of doctoral dissertation.
The Faculty of International Tourism and Management will further develop the partnership between the academic, industry and community
groups to improve its scientific research level, and strive to make more high-quality achievements in scientific research.
