On the afternoon of November 9, 2016, the "Freshmen and Dissertation Research Orientation for Doctoral Candidates of Faculty of International Tourism and
Management" was held in Choi Kai Yau Building of CityU. Dr. Sean Li, Academic Registrar of City University of Macau, Dr. Gavin Chau, Executive Associate Dean of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, programme coordinators Dr. Kenny J. M. Luo, Dr. James H.W. Shen and Dr. Grace Chan, Executive Director of Library Lin Huiqing, and approximately 30 doctoral candidates of the class of 2016 attended the orientation.
Academic Registrar Dr. Sean Li first addressed the orientation. He introduced the basics of CityU to the doctoral candidates of the class of 2016, and clarified that
corresponding adjustments have been made in relevant rules and regulations on the management of graduate students and thesis writing, which will be further
perfected to improve the teaching quality of CityU. He hoped that all doctoral candidates will complete their doctoral program and dissertation writing with
rigorous academic approaches and the attitude of innovation.
Executive Associate Dean Dr. Gavin Chau introduced the future development plan of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management of CityU to the
doctoral candidates, and exchanged views with them on student activities and other aspects. He clarified the regulations and requirements for dissertation
writing to establish the serious and upright attitude on scientific research.
Programme Coordinator Dr. Kenny J. M. Luo delivered the detailed interpretation and specific requirements on procedures and regulations related to the writing and defense of doctoral dissertation in response to the questions raised by doctoral candidates concerning dissertation writing and defense procedures, so as to
improve the efficiency of thesis management.
Executive Director of Library Lin Huiqing gave a detailed instruction to the doctoral candidates on the relevant regulations of library services, the use of electronic resources and the bibliographic management tool Refworks to meet their needs for thesis writing.
In the Q&A session, students actively raised questions concerning their interested fields and those related to dissertation writing, which were answered by leaders and relevant personnel of FITM. The graduate students said that the orientation was substantial and fully supported by leaders of the Faculty, which will help them make adequate preparation for dissertation writing and complete the doctoral program successfully.
