The First China Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition was a great success
The first China University Student Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition was held in Tianjin from May 25 to 28, jointly
organized by the Tourism Education Branch of China Tourism Association and the School of Tourism and Services of Nankai University. The
competition aims to enhance students' practical operation ability through virtual operation experience, "promote learning and teaching
through competition," and cultivate complex and application-oriented high-end tourism management talents. Through the event, students
can better understand the operation of the market economy, develop their management skills and teamwork abilities, and lay a solid
foundation for their future career development. The competition attracted 428 teams with 3,240 students and teachers from 110 institutions
across China, including the Macau SAR.
The students were required to form teams and work together to run a virtual hotel of their own. Participants were challenged to pass a variety of systematically predetermined scenarios (e.g., weekend crowds, strong trade show economy, continuous heavy rainstorms and cooler
weather), as well as business processes including hotel construction, operations management, and marketing. Through this competition,
students were able to experience system operation, deploy initial capital, decide on the business model, develop hotel and restaurant pricing strategies, and accumulate daily operating income to obtain the highest return on investment. The team of students from the Faculty of
International Tourism and Management (FITM) of the City University of Macau (CityU), under the guidance of Ms. Janice and Mr. Perry Ip,
passed the preliminary rounds and the final rounds of the competition from February to May, and finally entered the final round together with 78 teams from 49 other institutions. The students were able to overcome the challenges and compete with other teams, and they eventually
gained a lot of experience and benefits.
Finally, Ms. Janice Law's team of Ling Sijia, Zhang Yanxu, Huang Jingjun, and Zhao Liza were awarded the third prize. The outstanding team
award was given to Wu Feijing, Hong Manlin, Li Renjie, and Yang Yuanhao under the guidance of Mr. Perry Ip. The competition not only
deepened the students' understanding of business operations but also promoted exchange and cooperation among students, which
brought valuable opportunities and experiences for their growth and development.
