Outstanding Alumni Sharing Session: Courage and Perseverance in Difficulties, and Jade in Ordeals

On November 15, 2023, the Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) once again welcomed a wonderful alumni sharing

session. This time, we invited Ms. Juan Liu, an outstanding Master of Science (MSc) 2018 alumni, to share her research journey with the

students. She is currently focusing on the research of tourism service remediation using the experimental method. During her three years of

PhD studies, she authored five papers as first or corresponding author in major international tourist publications.

Alumni Ms. Liu actively interacted with students, and the atmosphere of the sharing session was relaxed and cordial

Doctoral and master students listened attentively to alumni's experience on the conceptualization, writing and submission of journal articles

The alumni sharing session, themed "Academic Journal Paper Writing and Publishing Workshop: A Multi-Stage Exploration," is divided into

four sections for in-depth exchanges and discussions with students. These sections cover topics such as selecting the paper's direction,

planning the research and writing the paper, submitting the paper, and responding to the reviewers' inquiries.

Taking her latest article as an example, she introduced the sources of inspiration for research topics, such as observing different scenes in life

and reading a lot of recently published articles. Based on these two methods, one can further broaden the field of research, expand the depth of research, and ultimately construct a clear research network. Ms. Liu believed that a high-quality thesis is shaped by repeated reading and

revision. She emphasized that "the harder you work, the luckier you are" and encouraged the master and doctoral students in the audience to be more rigorous in the process of submitting their theses, to make repeated inferences and revisions, and to work twice as hard to achieve

their goals.

On behalf of FITM, Prof. Xi Li, executive associate dean, and Prof. Huawen Shen, director of programs, presented a certificate of appreciation

and a souvenir to Ms. Liu

The Outstanding Alumni Sharing Meeting built an academic exchange platform for teachers and students by uniting the strength of alumni

and fully utilizing the advantages of alumni resources. In the future, FITM will continue to explore and construct multiple bridges for

communication and exchange among alumni, between alumni and current students, and give full play to the role of outstanding alumni.
