A workshop on the qualitative analysis software Nvivo was recently successfully arranged by the Faculty of International Tourism and
Management (FITM), drawing in a large number of FITM master's and doctorate students. The purpose of this activity is to increase the
master's and doctorate students' knowledge of Nvivo software, help them become proficient users, and help them become more adept at
using Nvivo software in qualitative research.
Dr. Wilson Au, an assistant professor of the faculty, was invited to deliver this workshop. He provided students with an in-depth understanding of how to utilize Nvivo for efficient data analysis and to make the most of this program in qualitative research through engaging case studies and practical exercises.
Students showed a high degree of participation and interest in the Nvivo workshop
In the data organization session, Dr. Au introduced how to import various types of research data (e.g. interview records, questionnaires, audio, etc.) into Nvivo and organize and manage them effectively; how to use Nvivo to conduct coding, and how to use the coding tools for theme
refinement and analysis; and how to write a research report in Nvivo, including how to make use of the report templates in the software, and
how to conduct an effective presentation of the data.
Students demonstrated great enthusiasm for the workshop by participating wholeheartedly and practicing hands-on. They gained a deeper
understanding of the application of the software in qualitative research and essentially mastered the skills of creating projects, recording data, setting codes, and writing reports on the spot. Following the workshop, students stated that the subject was deep and practical and that it
would be extremely beneficial to their future studies.
Dr. Au instructed students on the operation of Nvivo software
In the future, FITM will continue to organize various academic activities, pay attention to the latest scientific research trends and achievements in related fields at home and abroad, and provide more and better learning and practice opportunities for master and doctoral students, so as to help them achieve fruitful results on the road of academic development in the future.
Dr. Au and Prof. Gao took a group photo together
At the end of the event, Prof. Bo Gao, programme coordinator, on behalf of FITM, presented a Certificate of Appreciation and souvenir to
Dr. Wai Ching Au.
