Recently, in order to give full play to the role of past outstanding alumni in leading the students, the Faculty of International Tourism and
Management(FITM) invited 2016 alumnus Zhiwei Lin and 2019 alumnus Chenggan Zhu to be the guest speakers of the "Outstanding Alumni Sharing Session" series, and to share their personal experiences, recent academic achievements and learning insights with our Faculty's
Masters and PhD students.
On the afternoon of May 10, 2016 alumnus Zhiwei Lin shared his main research direction, his psychological journey of writing and his
experience of submitting manuscripts with the theme of "Back to the place where dreams begin: the journey of young scholars from nothing
to something". The students in the classroom resonated and actively participated in the questions: "How to find a good topic?" The questions were: "How to find a good topic?", "How to find a research gap?" etc. The atmosphere was very active. Finally, He also gave a brief overview of the academic journey of young scholars, from "foolishness", "fishing", "cooperation", "giving", "pleasure" to "fish", which was very
encouraging and beneficial to the students in the audience.
On the afternoon of May 17, the 2019 alumnus Chenggan Zhu gave a speech titled "How to choose a research interest and complete a piece of work", opening with the question "What is a research interest? He started a heated discussion with the students in the audience, and shared with them two of the current academic frontier research topics, namely sustainable tourism and smart tourism. Chenggan Zhu emphasized
that research should be concerned with social phenomena, have social value and be a responsible scholar, which drew a lot of applause from
the audience. During the Q&A session, the students actively asked questions about the logic of academic writing, and Mr. Zhu explained the
logic of academic writing from the introduction to the discussion and conclusion from his own submission experience.
The "Outstanding Alumni Sharing Session" series of activities built a bridge of academic communication between past outstanding alumni
and current students, who learned about the current hot research topics, academic writing logic, matters related to manuscript submission
and answering reviewers, and many questions were also answered in detail by two outstanding alumni. So far, this series of " Outstanding
Alumni Sharing Session" activities has been successfully completed.
On behalf of the FITM, Executive Associate Dean Xi Li presented souvenirs to the two alumni and took a group photo to thank them for their wonderful speeches. In the future, FITM will make use of the Outstanding Alumni Association as a platform for teachers and students to have dialogues with more outstanding alumni, as well as to strengthen the connection and communication between alumni and their alma mater, so as to help more students of City University of Macau benefit from them.
